Luminario Ballet is honoring Renae Williams Niles for her lifelong work putting the dance community of Los Angeles on the map. From Lula Washington to the CA Arts Council to Dance at the Music Center to USC Kaufman School of Dance to the Los Angeles Philharmonic- Renae has nurtured, encouraged, grown Los Angeles dance to the desirable hub it is today.
We first met Renae when she attended Luminario's very first show in 2009, as a friend and colleague of our choreographer, Jamal Story. Our very first show-and although none of us knew it then, our last Los Angeles show in November 2019 prior to covid lockdown!
Luminario Ballet is honoring Jamal Story for believing in us enough to launch! He choreographed our first original piece for our first show "If the Walls Could Scream"; and many others including "The Last Supper" co-choreographed with artistic director Judith FLEX Helle. Jamal is had od SAG Dance in NY; a dancer/dance captain with CHER, choreography assistant of Donald Byrd; and everyone's favorite dancer, aerialist, acrobat, pianist, author, advisor, and, all around bon vivant.
Jamal started out 25 years back dancing with Lula Washington Dance Theater with... Renae Williams Niles!
Luminario Ballet is honoring Bianca Sapetto- founding dancer, aerialist, and choreographer of Luminario Ballet; co-choreographer with Judith FLEX Helle of "LedZAerial", which they brought to the stage in 2003-2006. Bianca performed with Cirque du Soleil Quidam, Teatro ZinZanni San Francisco, and, tapping into her origin story as a 5 time national champion rhythmic gymnast, a choreographer/performer of great precision and wonder.
Relationships matter, and the friendship and collaboration between Judith and Bianca spans now 25 years!
What is Luminario Ballet?
Imagine that the Bolshoi Ballet married Cirque du Soleil and they had a baby here in Los Angeles!
That would be Luminario Ballet, one of the most thrilling, sexy and athletic dance companies in the US!
Luminario's unique combination of world class emotional ballet dancers combined with high flying aerial acrobats performing to pumping music from Stravinsky to Led Zeppelin always leaves our audience screaming for MORE!
