Luminario Ballet of Los Angeles performs contemporary and classical ballet en pointe, classic modern dance, and aerial ballet a la Cirque du Soleil. Our choreographers in repertory include Michael Smuin from San Francisco Ballet, Bella Lewitzky, Jamal Story (Complexions NYC, CHER), Josie Walsh, Alexandre Magno (“So You Think You Can Dance”, Madonna), Stefan Wenta of Wenta Ballet, and Judith FLEX Helle (Led Zeppelin aerial ballet spectacular, "LedZAerial"*).

Luminario Ballet represents the vibrant diverse population of SoCal, and performs full evening repertory shows as well as guest spots and commissioned choreography.

Last April, found us at Walt Disney Concert Hall ! Luminario Ballet was commissioned by the LA Philharmonic and performed with  the orchestra April 10 and 17, 2010. The pieces were to Copland's "Rodeo" and Ginestera's "Estancias" for the North America South America concerts in the Toyota Symphony for Youth series.

Luminario went to Orange County Performing Arts Center in May 2010 to do a choreography workshop with Nacho Duato's Compania Nacional de Danza, Madrid, who were in residence. After last year's successful workshop with CND2, Luminario was very excited to be in the studio learning more choreography, which was exciting to see on CND. In upcoming seasons, Luminario Ballet hopes to acquire a piece from this detailed, emotional and technically demanding choreographer.

2010 Repertory shows at the Ford Amphitheater in Hollywood and University of California Irvine’s Claire Trevor Theater included:
Premieres by: Jamal Story (Complexions NYC) “If the Walls Could Scream”, Alexandre Magno (Madonna, Ballet Hispanico) “Cheers Darling”, and LA's revered ballet maestro Stefan Wenta's hommage to Chopin in honor of his 200th birthday, “Fantasy on Polish Airs”.

Revivals: "TURF" choreographed in 1991 by Los Angeles modern dance legend Bella Lewitzky, staged by John Pennington; and, "Bouquet" choreographed in 1981 by San Francisco Ballet's then Artistic Director, Michael Smuin.
